About this bottle

Mary Dowling Whiskey Company (MDWC) makes its debut with two bourbon bottlings including this Tequila Barrel Finished Bourbon. Co-founded by Whiskey Maker Kaveh Zamanian, MDWC is named for an influential female distiller making bourbon prior to Prohibition. She shifted production to Juárez, Mexico during Prohibition which explains this release. Made with a high-malt double malt recipe, the Kentucky bourbon was aged for 4 years in new toasted and charred Kelvin Cooperage American oak. Then the bourbon finishes its maturation in American oak ex-tequila barrels. Available at select US retailers beginning August 2023. (SRP $75)

A warm, high rye Kentucky Bourbon crafted with a mash bill of 70% corn, 25% malted rye & 5% malted barley, aged over 3 years in #3 wood-fired, toasted & charred new American Oak & then finished in Reposado Tequila barrels before being bottled at 46.5% ABV. It has an aromatic birth with notes of grains, wood, agave, flowers, herbs & spices; while rich & spicy life adds notes of grapefruit & lemon; that led to a long & warm death with notes of oak, black pepper. smoke, tobacco, anise & nutmeg.

Spicy from beginning to finish. Nice sip. Not much mouthfeel. The price is a bit high for what you get and I’m not sure that I’m picking up the tequila barrel finish.
