About this bottle

The Legendary Midnight Silkie is a core whiskey for the brand and it is the smokiest release thus far. It is a blend of triple-distilled single malts along with a triple-distilled peated single malt (this comprises 35% of the blend). The single malt whiskeys were aged in a a variety of casks: sherry, cabernet sauvignon, imperial oatmeal stout, bourbon, and virgin oak.

The Midnight Silkie is a blend of single malts that are finished in virgin oak and imperial stout casks. I'm not an Irish whiskey expert, but this is unique in my experience. The bottle was a gift from a friend, and I'm pleased to have received it. Pretty honey-gold appearance (unknown if coloring is added). Expansive and sweet nose of Honey-Nut Cheerios, ripe pear, and smoky peat. Mouthcoating palate with more of the same; the slightly-above-normal 46% ABV is evident but very much in check. Medium finish with some vanilla and woody tannins on the back end. Overall, a smooth, easy-drinking pour, though not terribly complex. 3.25 on the Distiller scale. Non chill-filtered; no age statement; 46% ABV. N.B.: All spirits tasted neat from a Glencairn glass.

NOSE Sweet BBQ smoke, earthy malt, grilled orchard fruit, Twizzlers, touches of tropical fruit, and minerality. Far from the typical Irish Whiskey aroma, this is interesting and alluring. PALATE Sweet BBQ smoke, earthy malt, dark fruit, grilled orchard fruit, Twizzlers, touches of tropical fruit, minerality, and ash. A touch tannic but nice and easy to get into. Sweetly balanced with the smoke FINISH Long -> BBQ smoke, malt, Honey Nut Cheerios, toasted marshmallows.

The best of the silkie lineup. Peat forward, not complex though. If someone pours it, I would drink but don’t think I would pay for a bottle

Peat and smoke in nearly equal parts. Just sweet enough.
