Mount Gay XO Triple Cask Blend

A complex, Blended Dark Rum by Master Distiller Allen Smith for Mount Gay Distilleries Ltd in Barbados distilled in both a pot & column still; then aged between 5 & 17 years in a combination of cask types: ex-Bourbon, ex-Whiskey & ex-Cognac; before being bottles at 43% ABV. It has an aromatic birth with notes of flamed orange zest, mulling spice & humidor; while a delicate & creamy life adds notes of mango, raw cane, plantain, cloves & warm oak; that leads to a warm & spicy death of medium length with notes of pepper & toffee. March / April / December 2021

Just picked this bottle up at the nearby Total Wine and More. Initial impressions: strong baking spice aroma, with less prominent vanilla and oak. Creamy vanilla in the mouth, and spices. Fruity finish and a slight, lingering burn.

First sipping rum. This was good. Caramel and vanilla on the nose. Nice flavors with a bit of sweetness followed by a bit of spice on a med finish. I would do this one again

Nose: a bit of a nice spicy oak, sweet caramel Palate: oak spice, almost a bourbon character, cinnamon and a little banana. Finish: a bit of baking spice, caramel

Aromas are brown sugar, toffee with hints of vanilla, nutmeats and nutmeg. Flavors are similar to but not quite as interesting as aromas. Smooth but a bit bland.

spicy, grainy bourbon like nose. Rich caramel, vanilla, and oak Comes on and finishes strong. Truly a great bass sipper. My favorite offering from mount gay.
