About this bottle

This release is one of the first two of the "Nikka Discovery" series for the US market. The series explores techniques that have been honed by Nikka since it was founded in 1934, leading up to its 90th anniversary in 2024. This expression is crafted solely from batches of peated malts, to examine something different from the distillery known for its lighter, fruitier whiskies. It is non chill-filtered and bottled at 48% ABV, with 20,000 bottles available as of November, 2021.

Added pinches of smoke to the classic strawberry, bubble gum, raisin, lychee, and floral Miyagikyo character. The peat is light, elegant and mixes well with the warm, malty nose. The flavor also has a light touch of peat which accentuates the bakery character of the spirit. Quite traditional in character, and in the mould of Japanese whiskies, this one nonetheless has it’s own unique flavors at the finish. Some ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon and a touch of clove add depth and a dry, bright end.

Loved the non-peated yoichi but liked this even more. Long sweet natural finish with the perfect amount of smoke throughout.
