About this bottle

The Yoichi Woody & Vanillic is only available for purchase from the distillery in Hokkaido. The distillery exclusive series takes a new approach to NAS single malts, by clearly stating the expected notes and flavors on the label. Nikka's Miyagikyo distillery has done the same with their own range of distillery exclusives.

Nose: Fantastic! Strong vanilla w/ a light smoke. Almost a light burnt leather with crisp toffee and coffee bean. Palate: For being 55% it is very gentle. I got very little initial alcohol burn at all! It is smoky but not overwhelmingly so, gives room to a hot caramel and dark chocolate note. Of course my favorite part of all this was the welcome vanilla spice note that is present for the whole sip. A light smoke makes its self known as well. Finish: Hot but sweet. Unfortunately short to me; left me wishing for more as it gently lifted off the tongue. Leaving behind almost a melted vanilla ice cream taste. Maybe...marshmallow and wood spice. Conclusion: I really enjoyed it! Going down as possibly one of my favorites from Nikka. At about $65 retail if you can find this guy it’s a worth purchase! On secondary I think for this one I’d pay up to $100. Anything past that and it would depend if I had any spares left or not 🤔😜 Cheers all🥃

Nov 2019. Clear medium dark gold to amber. Medium small tulip. Aromatic vanilla, heavily roasted coffee beans, sweet spicy, old leather, honey, toffee, and forest tree bark in the bouquet. Full body with lots of wood spicy, toasted bread Christmas cake, tiramisu, and caramel brûlée in palate. Good balance medium long finish. 55%abv.

Full of punch as it has high abv, but surprisingly still considered smooth. Pack of flavor, vanillic and wood aroma, lingering spices at the end.

Intense, sweet, fits the name well. Being young and 50% definitely makes it strong but it’s great with some water. 93
