About this bottle

No. 9 Iowa Whiskey is a collaboration between heavy metal band Slipknot, founded in Des Moines, and Iowa's Cedar Ridge Distillery. The whiskey is a blend of straight bourbon and straight rye whiskeys distilled at Cedar Ridge using corn grown at the distillery's farm in Winthrop. The whiskeys were aged between 3-4 years. Percussionist Shawn Crahan, known as "Clown", blended the whiskey which is named for the number of members in the band. Bottled at 90 proof. Available nationwide as of August 2019.

Not a slip knot fan but enjoyed Fred Minnicks interview about this. Peaked my curiosity. Honestly went in skeptical. I really enjoyed this and am considering making it a staple in my bar. It definitely makes me think a blend of bourbon and rye. You most definitely get the notes of both. So how can a whiskey drinker not like it. A very good bourbon up front with corn and sweetness then wait a minute and there it is, a rye. Very weird how every time i try it its the same. Bourbon up front then a minty rye at the end. $36

Nose: Honeysuckle and flower petals to start. Soon after comes sweet corn and caramel with the hint of a freshly picked jalapeño pepper. Palate: Sweet caramel and apple butter followed by burnt marshmallow and the return of jalapeño. Finish: Sweet toasted marshmallow entices another sip. Summary: Most celebrity spirits are a cash grab and a joke. This is one of the rare times it is not. Good price. Great pour.

This was a Jalapeno pepper bomb of flavor to me. I absolutely loved it and I'm considering trying to create a cocktail that highlights the lovely natural spicy notes of this whiskey. It definitely has some caramel sweetness and some cinnamon bite to the nose to it but this is super pepper forward to me.

Initial alcohol burn that will take your breath away. Then the flavor is unidentifiable, but obviously burnt. And then the obnoxious aftertaste kicks in. Definitely the worst whiskey I’ve had the misfortune of tasting, and quite possibly the worst ever distilled.

Hot bite on the front end fading into spicy rye that dances on your tongue like pop rocks, ending with a traditional corn whiskey finish. Nothing here for the fancy or timid. Definitely worth the hype.

Very thin with not much flavor. Sure, it isn't a high proof. But it still lacks that something. Very floral. With some notes of honey and lemon. Very light, with not a lot going on.
