About this bottle

No. 9 Reserve Iowa Whiskey is a collaboration between heavy metal band Slipknot, founded in Des Moines, and Iowa's Cedar Ridge Distillery. The whiskey is a blend of straight bourbon and straight rye whiskeys distilled at Cedar Ridge using corn grown at the distillery's farm in Winthrop. The whiskeys were aged at least 4 years. Percussionist Shawn Crahan, known as "Clown", blended the whiskey which is named for the number of members in the band. Bottled at 99 proof. Available nationwide as of August 2019.

My first sip out of the bottle actually tasted pretty good with some spices and marshmallow flavor. However, once I poured a glass, I got a strange plastic and cherry cough syrup taste, which I think others have noted is probably a particular spice note, that unfortunately doesn't agree with me. Wanted to like this one as I really enjoyed the regular No9 but it's not doing it for me at all so far. They are very different so if you disliked No9, that doesn't mean you will necessarily dislike No9 Reserve.

This is not what I expected having had the reg batch Iowa 9 which I really liked. Nose- subtle, sweet, smoke Taste - smoke hits you hard, followed by heavy cloves and black cherry. Faint all spice and light oily feel Finish - smooth, low proof so no burn at all. I’m getting a cherry Dr Pepper on the finish. Overall it’s a bit over smoked for me. Would have liked to see this at a higher proof. I like the small batch better to be honest.

Banana bread. Lots of soft clove and pretty elegant light spice on the nose and taste, but very rich flavor throughout, and super sippable on and on and on. Really impressed with how this whiskey turned out. Cedar Ridge and slip knot nailed it!
