The ex-cognac cask imparts a lovely high note of fine vine fruit, whilst the whiskey distillate remains an evocative canvas full of character on its own. A medium-light body with rye spice coming through towards the fnish, gives this a punchiness and strength. At the very end is a curious smokiness which is perhaps due to a heavier char on the American oak barrels.
About this bottle
First introduced in 2021, Old Elk Cask Finish series returns in January 2023 with a trio of releases including the return of this Cognac Cask Finish Bourbon. Aged for a minimum of 5 years, the bourbon is made with the brand's signature high-malt mash bill of 51% corn, 34% malted barley and 15% rye. The bourbon is then finished in a cognac cask for 10 months. Bottled at 109.7 proof, it's returning to shelves as of January 19, 2023 at select retailers nationwide. (SRP $99.99)

Nose: weird funk that I can’t put my nose on. Smells almost like scotch Palate: pretty thick. Getting a little bit of the cognac. Bit of spice Finish: weird, dry. Lingering cognac Liked it more than I thought. Not bad, 4 on the t8ke scale
Would not have guessed this is cask strength if it didn't say it on the bottle. Pretty disappointing for a cask strength, cognac finished bourbon.
Disappointing. Didn't get much from the Cognac. Average at best and way overpriced for what you get from it.
Heavy caramel with oak and vanilla on the nose. Caramel, a little leather and vanilla on palate.
Weird smokiness. Good flavor. Not sure id buy again
