About this bottle

Announced early 2018, this series from Heaven Hill Distillery features bottled-in-bond, Kentucky straight bourbon under the Old Fitzgerald label, a wheated bourbon brand. This will be a biannual release with the bottles featuring a green label for spring and a black label for the fall editions. The age will vary with each edition. The first release for 2018 was comprised of barrels produced between February and May 2006. Aged 11 years and bottled in April 2018 at 100 proof, the requirement for bottled in bond whiskeys. The packaging for this bottle was inspired by an original 1950's Old Fitzgerald diamond decanter. These releases are to be allocated so availability will be limited.

5.0 Stars - Unbelievably Good; 20 ml sample This was an absolute flashbulb moment. I will always remember where I was when I tried this whiskey. This is from a 2019 premium tasting at my local mom & pop liquor store. Rather than sell or raffle allocated bottles, they organized a tasting so the maximum number of people could try these gems. Super stand-up approach. Aroma is slightly floral. Taste is a wonderful potpourri of sweet, spicy, leather, and cracked pepper. Finish is long, spicy and smoky. I never knew whiskey could be like this.

I was really lucky to get a sample from a friend. Really exciting to taste, and some very solid bourbon. My wife says it’s almost worth the price (I told her $150 a bottle) which is a pretty strong compliment. Nose - big caramel and brown sugar up front, some solid cinnamon and mint, maple syrup, a bit of peanuts, and some sharp wheat notes Palette- medium bodied, spicy, dark caramel, a bit hot, some cinnamon, maybe a bit of black pepper Finish - lingering spice with a touch of maple sweetness, medium heat

The color is a brownish, dark amber with heavy legs that coat the glass. The nose is full of corn, caramel and charred oak at first, with molasses, vanilla and a hint of honey and dark chocolate following it up. The palate is a wonderful burst of pepper balanced by caramel, honey and vanilla while oak and caramel holds it all together. The finish is long with spice mixing with caramel and oak that takes its time to fade, as dark chocolate and vanilla linger behind it.

This weekend is a celebration so figured, “what the hell?” Been trying got find OF (any year) in the wild in VA and no luck. Nose: very sweet — vanilla, frosting, caramel, honey Palate: smooth, sweet, bit of caramel apples Finish: has a touch of spice/kick (though that was after consuming a bit of smoked BBQ brisket / burnt ends, which may have brought out some spicer flavors) Wouldn’t seek it out again for other than MSRP, but still a very good bourbon 👍

This one tells me it’s going to be oily, sweet and decadent just from the nose. Over-ripe cherry with strong vanilla undertones. So good. Rich, sweet and creamy with just enough heat to make it captivating. I don’t recommend the addition of water as it doesn’t add enough to merit diluting the sumptuousness of the base bourbon. 4.4.

N: Corn, Cinnamon, pepper, salted caramel and honey, hints of apples in glencarin, nutty P: honey up front, toasted oak and almonds, hints of nuts and vanilla extract middle with an almost sour note F: chocolate, oak, and pepper overall a good classic pour worth the high retail price, when you include presentation
