Subtle nose considering it’s proof—barrel oak base with caramel overtone, light on cherry compared to typical OF BIB. Tight but deep palette leading with brown sugar dropping into a kentucky hug, spice ends quickly though for a long barrel finish. 2nd nosing is greater sweetnes. 2nd tasting is more complex with flavors typically reserved for aged bourbons. Really good, buy it if you see it, don’t hunt for it or pay secondary.
Old Forester 150th Anniversary Bourbon (Batch 03)
About this bottle
Old Forester 150th Anniversary Bourbon Batch 03 is one of three batches released to celebrate the date in which founder George Garvin Brown sold the first bottled bourbon. Brown changed the whiskey industry by selling his whiskey in bottle rather than by the barrel as was the custom. Master distiller Chris Morris selected 150 barrels for this bottling and at maturation, several had lost all its liquid to the angel's share. Master taster Jackie Zykan batched the three bourbons, each of which are unfiltered and bottled at batch strength. Batch 03 consists of 46 barrels and is bottled at 63.4% ABV.

Caramel leather nose, dry scotch start then fades, vanilla, long finish ignore this! Palette has matured a lot in 3 years Mar 15, 2024 Proof 126.8, batch 03, bottle 07641 Nose: vanilla, graham cracker, grassy. Some smoke. Palette: licorice and menthol, vanilla, cracker, tootsie roll, there is a grainy note in there. Long oak finish with some syrup.
A pleasant nose of clove, cherry, tobacco, maple syrup, and raisin. On the tongue, I found this to drink pretty hot, almost unpleasant. After that, I got toffee, cinnamon, and a trace of butterscotch. This bourbon finish is medium long. It really opened up after a couple small drops of water. For the price, I'm sticking to Old Forester 1920...
Aroma is incredible. Don’t even want to take a sip. Full of vanilla, cherries, toasted oak and even banana bread. Taste- massive brown sugar, vanilla... very syrup-like. A slight hint of that banana bread again here.Oak is present but subtle. For the ABV, this is incredibly smooth and easy drinking. Wish I had more of this one.
The best of the anniversary batches. Some chocolate and nuttiness. I kind of find the base old forester profile kind of nasty though. Similar banana note as jack daniels but also that unpleasant cough syrupiness.
Well done Not 100% my flavor profile but a definite buy at or close to retail Nose is slightly muted Palate is mouth filling Finish is nice and long but drinks slightly hot
