Old Medley 12 Year is a Kentucky straight bourbon made from a family recipe of corn, rye, barley, and a secret eight generation old yeast strain. The whiskey is distilled twice through copper pot stills before being aged in new, charred American oak casks for 12 years.

The nose is a burst of charred oak, vanilla, cherry and a slight bit of brown sugar and molases. The palate offers a burst of pepper and dry oak, offering itself up as chewy yet rich. Brown sugar and molasses ride the background as this cones across as simple yet provides itself as quintessential bourbon. The finish is medium and slightly peppery as the mouth stays tingling as dry oak fades.
I love this one. You taste the vanilla and caramel then spice then it disappears and you’re curious what you just tasted so you go in again and you find more complexity in the spice. Old fashioned ready - almost as tho an angostura bitter is already built into it.
Very good bourbon, at a great price for a 12 year. I’ve enjoyed Medley’s Wathen lines, and enjoy this too. 90 proof keeps it smooth, but isn’t as soft as an 80. Extended aging imparts good notes of oak, caramel, vanilla, and a twist of lemon.
I would easily give this 3 and a 1/2 stars if it let me. It has a great upfront buttery flavor my only complaint is that the finish which is reasonably long has too much alcohol flavor not a burn just the flavor.
Traditional bourbon nose and palate with a little bit of oak and rye spice. Finish is a little dry and quick. Not bad but nothing unique especially at its price point.
If you like Wathens (8 year old - Singke Barrel). You should love this. It comes from the same sources. The new 10 year old is fantastic too.
