Nose - Sweet bright raisins, hint of fresh oranges, dark syrupy sweet apple juice Taste - Sweet bittersweet raisins, oily rich mouthfeel, gentle heat/tingle, stone fruit pit bitter, almost medicinal but not quite, almost metallic but not quite Finish - Lingering heat/tingle, weird almost bitter/medicinal/metallic fruity red berry sweet, almost like cynar but not quite as bitter or intense Score - 70/100 Final Thoughts - The nose on this one had so much promise. Not the most complex nose, but nice strong classic sherried whisky aromas of rich juicy dark raisins & a hint of orange that promised so much. Sadly, once it hit the palate, it had this fantastic mouthfeel and initial burst of pleasant sweetness, that sadly had this very strange medicinal/metallic/bitter tinge to it. It wasn't very strong in either of those flavors, but it reminded you of each & every one of those & it was quite distracting. Sadly this continued to the finish and sort of gave you this lingering mouthfeel that is similar if you've ever tried one of those Chinese medicinal herb infused wines. Thing with this is that it wasn't horrible, but it wasn't good. Would I drink it if offered? - No Would I specifically order it? - No Would I buy a bottle? - No NOTE - All reviews are done without factoring in price.

The very definition of a middling whiskey. I kind of wonder what it would have tasted like without the sherry finish since it’s entire personality is “sherry.” Thin and uncomplicated but not unpleasant. I finished the bottle, but I’m a big fan of sherried single malts. The heavy-handed finish and slightly higher proof giving the flavors that do exist a leg up keep this out of the “2s”. I don’t plan on buying blind from Nantou distillery again. I’ll stick with Kavalan for my Taiwanese whiskey.

A balanced, Taiwanese Single Malt Whisky by Nantou Distillery made in one of 4 pot stills with malted barley, both imported from Scotland & only produced from October to April when it is cooler, then age in ex-Sherry casks. It has an aromatic birth with notes of orange, mandarin & sherry; while a rich life adds notes of malted barley, mandarin, cinnamon, honey, vanilla & dark chocolate; that led to a long & spicy death with notes of oak & fruit. I'm with romiastar on this one. WTF is the sherry? Sweet, lovely and inoffensive. Middle of the road slightly above average. I knew it was going to be as it's bourbon brother (which to be honest the sherry casks this has been in have been used so many times I'm not sure in good conscience you could attach sherry to the name) wasn't anything special. Neither is this..if you want Taiwanese go Kavalan (top end as bottom is average). Pass on this distillery unless you are into mediocrity.

Taste of honey sweet nose with a tinge of cinnamon spice. The very first taste is sweet with sherry, then it follows with orange flavors at the top of your palate followed by bitter smoke, the oak is in the aftertaste with more bitterness. The finish lingers but it's not a good finish. I would not buy this for its $86 price tag. Feels more like a bottle in the high $20 vicinity.

I love whisky from Taiwan. They usually have a floral aroma like honeysuckle. This one definitely does. It has definite overtones of sherry as well. The palate has sherry and vanilla. This is followed by dark chocolate and then transitions to cinnamon which flows through the finish. Nicely balanced.
