Strongly medicinal and bracing. Prominent juniper overwhelms other botanicals. Rye base adds some pepper, which results in a pretty rough sip, and a gin that isn't smooth enough to mix in more subtle cocktails. The distiller has an exciting and geeky approach, so I hope future gin recipes are much more to my liking (others I was with liked this gin more than I did, but I think I was the most avid gin drinker of the group).
About this bottle
Hailing from the nation’s capital, this craft gin features a distillate base of 63% rye, 26% corn, and a rich 11% malted barley. The botanical program prominently features the necessary juniper and the unique addition of local spicebush — a member of the laurel family with aromatic berries — along with coriander, grains of paradise, angelica, fennel, licorice, orris root, lemon peel, and lemongrass. The distillery focuses on grain and distillation also producing vodka and whiskey. Note: This product received a makeover with new packaging and "District Made" added to Ivy City Gin.

Great in a G&T. The unusual grain bill gives it a creamier mouthfeel with a little spiciness and pepper from the botanicals and rye grain.
Shocked by the low reviews here - this is one of my favorite gins, approachable and balanced.
