Nose 1: getting something warm scented like baked pie crust on the nose, or maybe toffee, burnt carmel. Color is dark for a 3 year. Alcohol burn is surprisingly light for 110 proof. Taste 1: wow that's a spicy rye! Not the alcohol burning as much as the spiciness if the rye grain. Super smooth and minty with hints of Carmel and vanilla, spearmint type of mint, and chocolate. Nose 2: still can't pinpoint what the layer on the nose I'm getting is. Something darker and richer than usual. Maybe a dark chocolate covered raisin. Taste 2: just as hot as the first one! Wow, for three years old this rye is killer! If you like that gut punch rye, this is it! This is a powerful and flavorful rye whiskey worth the amount I paid for it for sure. Granted I got a smokin deal on it at Payless liquors but damn this is up there with some of my favorite whiskies. Bravo to Kentucky peerless distillery on this one! I cannot wait to see what the 4,5, and 6 year ryes will taste like!

When the 2 year bottle came out I thought it was pretty ridiculous that it was going for retail at around $115 and because of that I was never going to buy a bottle. Fast forward to seeing the three year edition at Costco for $80 and I couldn’t resist. Wow the nose on this is really great with burnt caramel and a slight tinge of mint. On the palate it definitely has strong alcohol burn and that’s to be expected for 108 proof. There is a lot of rye spice and I’m getting some marshmallow flavors as well. The finish is long with a good amount of oak especially for the age. I have to say this is a really great rye whiskey that looks and tastes like a rye that could be 7-8 years old.

Aroma of some vanilla, herbal notes (mint) and some cedar sweetness present. Flavor screams Rye and is salty, vanilla, almond, Cedar. Opens to honey and amped up vanilla and then marzipan opens very nicely. Be patient with this in the glass. Interesting in that it seemed almost too salty early, but this comes into balance. (salted caramel kind of thing. (I did taste next to Whistle Pig 10 year and WP won by a good distance)

Poured neat. Nose reminds me of the fruit cocktail cups we used to get in school with some minty ethanol notes - like Vick's vapor rub. Flavor is a pleasant mix of sweet and spice. I get notes of black liquorice and dehydrated banana plus mint, cinnamon, and cracked pepper. Finish is moderate with notes of leather, oak and general baking spices.

Very warm up front. Lots of butterscotch and vanilla followed by smoke. A little sharp and a little bitter back of tongue after taste. Big fan.

Very young and spiky. A little better with water and the after taste after a minute or two is where it shines. Just needs more time to mellow.
