The nose starts immediately with a strong burst of black pepper and baking spices that quickly mellows out to give way to charred oak, caramel apple, earthy rye spice and vanilla sweet bread. None of the notes are more distinct than the others with the longer the whiskey breathes, the more it transforms into smelling grainy like cereal. The palate starts off gently but quickly fills the mouth with a wave pepper and baking spices, mostly cinnamon. It dominates most of the palate, though some creamy notes of oaky vanilla do come through, but is drowned out. It is mostly one dimensional with it gradually turning into an unpleasant experience of overwhelming spice. The finish is short with lingering spice, but nothing else really sticks around. At least, nothing discernable.
About this bottle
Like the flagship Penelope Bourbon, this is made from a blend of three mash bill recipes which uses four different grains: corn, rye, wheat, and malted barley. It's aged from 3.5 to 5 years in new American oak barrels with a char #2 heads and char #4 staves. It's bottled without chill filtration at barrel strength. Each batch has a slightly different proof and flavor profile, which is to be expected of such bottlings.

Nose: Caramel, brown sugar, hint of corn Palate: Butterscotch, barrel char, raisins, cinnamon Finish: Butterscotch, crème brûlée, cinnamon Sweet, more complex than the regular Four Grain but could do with aging a bit more 6.5/10
Drinking neat, nice warming, oak nose, slight spicy sweetness, slight lingering after, very nice
Caramel all around with a slight heat on the finish. MGP bourbon but a decent NDP.
Kinda like Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson… So strong it’s almost not fun anymore
Really good. I am becoming a big fan of their bourbon.
