About this bottle

Penelope Bourbon is named after the name of the founder's daughter. This limited edition release from the brand begins as a straight four-grain bourbon like its standard releases. The bourbon then finishes its maturation in French rosé wine barrels before it's bottled at 94 proof. This first batch is available as of October 2020.

On the nose I get corn/grain followed by a light floral scent. You can definitely smell some of the rose. After a while things move into almost a raw cookie dough, where the raw flour and brown and white sugars come through. The vanilla starts to creaps in more which makes me think even more about that raw cookie dough vibe. First sip, I almost immediately taste a light bourbon (grain/oak/vanilla) and sweet strawberry. I am not sure if that was my mind or not, but an real initial hit of strawberry. Eventually the flavors fade and i have to search a little more for the fruity flavor. There is a little spice but at 94 proof, the spice definitely falls off quickly. Finally, I am left with more strawberry but it is more an under/unripe strawberry where you get more earthy/grassy elements of the fruit. It is pretty thin and the finish is short. I think some of that is the fact that this seems to be more of a delicate flavor profile and it is a lower proof. Also, the finish is almost like a light rose wine, which in normally a bad thing for bourbon; but in this case, seems appropriate.

I bought this on Fred Minnick’s review and I agree with him wholeheartedly. This is excellent. It is light and refreshing and I get a sort of strawberries and champagne flavor note to it on top of a subtle whiskey background. This should NOT be compared to any sort of Kentucky bourbon. My wife can’t stand bourbon and thinks this is yummy. So go in with open eyes, but what a nice bottle to have in the mix for a change of pace or friends who aren’t bourbon aficionados.

Smells like flowers, fresh, clean, floral, and sweet. Palate matches nose well and is really unique and well balanced. Sweet, floral, strawberries, bright red fruits, has a creaminess to it that is nice. Has an interesting fresh/clean smell almost like spring water. Develops nicely with a little spice and light heat on the finish. Super unique, very good taste, and very well balanced

Nose: nothing crazy, like rosé wine and light whiskey Palate: Light, fruity, strawberry Finish: short, nothing linger too much Overall: Very pleasant. Its not super complex, its light and fruity and easy to sip. I like to think of it more as a mixed drink more so than a bourbon - and if you go into it with that in mind, I i think you will enjoy it a lot

I am unsure what went wrong here. Not a bad bourbon but for the cost???? I would’ve rather been sipping on some Evan Williams black label. I get none of the rosè cask flavor on this whiskey and frankly it comes off harsh and thin. This was very disappointing to me as I enjoyed the Penelope toasted finsh whiskey.

Nose: bright fruit notes of pears along with berries and a slight hint of ethanol Palate: lite briwn sugar, honey, cream, and some oak spice. Finish: the oak spice lingers longer than the proof would suggest, and then fades into a fruit and yogurt mix at the end
