A little bit of heat, a little bit of char, a little bit of sweet corn. This non-age statement whiskey is "local" to me which provided the jostling I needed to buy a bottle. It's a bit fire-y at 100 proof, but honestly I think it helps develop the flavor in this young whiskey. It's not amazing but it's shockingly good for non-aged pseudo-bourbon and am eager to try more of their stuff as the distillery continues to grow and evolve.
About this bottle
From the Pinckney Bend Distillery in New Haven, Missouri. With a mash bill of 80% corn, 15% barley, and 5% rye, this whiskey goes into charred 15-gallon Missouri white oak barrels. Supposedly, the aging process gets hand from the Missouri Pacific Railroad, giving the barrels a little shake every forty minutes as the trains pass by.

Heat starts quickly followed by a biscuit taste. This one is somewhere between not great and not awful. I bought my first bottle today. And my last.
Honey and sweet corn on the nose, goes from sweet to spicy and the char comes through on the tail. Spicy finish that leaves quickly.
Phenomenal dry maple flavor, from the wood! Definitely deserving of all of its awards.
Very warm.
