Uncorked pick, "Gallenstein Selection #5" 59.3% abv; 118.5 proof Open 1 month Nose - honeycomb, cheap caramel candy, flowers, light vanilla, fresh cut grass, light cinnamon, light oak, and medium ethanol. Palate - Honey Nut Cheerios, sweet grain, vanilla flavoring, mouthcoating oily oak, and fresh cinnamon bun. Finish is medium-long with some bitter oak, white pepper, cinnamon powder, cereal, and medium ethanol. I wanted to rate this lower based on cost, but I keep drinking it, and enjoying it. I've had plenty of MGP high rye bourbon, but I think their low rye bourbon mashbill is more dependable in this age range. It's lighter, sweeter, and less grainy than a lot of what you'll find in the 5-8 year range. Do I still regret paying $90 for this? A bit. But I can say that I found the standard 8Y Bourbon War Vertical on clearance last week, and it's not as good as this.
