About this bottle

Pinhook Bohemian Bourbon is the brand's flagship bourbon release for 2020. Like previous releases, it features a promising young thoroughbred horse from Bourbon Lane Stables on the label. However, Bohemian Bourbon is the first filly to be featured. The bourbon was distilled at Castle & Key Distillery from a mash bill of 75% corn, 15% rye, and 10% malted barley. It was blended and bottled by co-founder Sean Josephs at 47.5% ABV.

Color: Gold Nose: The wax on this kinda says it all. This coloring reminds me of a butterscotch dilly bar and that’s exactly what I get on the nose. Butterscotch with a hint of orange. After a bit in the glass I get some additional fruits on it. Maybe some cherry. After a drop of water the butterscotch nose is even more emphasized. Pretty delicious nose actually. Palate: Definitely a fruity palate. Pretty pleasurable drink actually. Nothing overly complex but no issues drinking this neat. The drop of water brings out some additional floral tones. I think it opened up pretty good with the drop of water. That’s how I’d drink this one. Finish: Not a whole lot there. You get some of the lasting spice on the finish but it’s pretty short-lived. Overall, pretty decent for the price. I’d use this to introduce people to bourbon. You don’t get some of the Carmel and vanilla from the older aged bourbons, but it also lacks the heat that would turn non-bourbon drinkers away. Nothing special, but good enough. I’d go with the high proof next time

Picked up a second bottle and I just can't stick with a 3.75 soft, golden hay color. really really sticks to the glass. first impression is that it's young... nose shows a solid contribution of rye. a bit of burnt orange oil and spices abound: clove, a bit of eucalyptus. a bit of a corn flake richness or sweetness comes to mind as well as candied apricots. it's sort of all shows up on the front. sweetness exists throughout, but the oak and nuance rolled themselves out shortly thereafter. short to medium finish with a bit of stickiness in the mouth left behind buttered toast sprinkled with cinnamon. it's well balanced and delicious, even if a little young outstanding value

Nose: Walnuts, fresh cut grass, cloves, and caramel. More floral on the nose than sweet. Palate: Green tea, walnuts, orange zest, slight caramel which provides a bit of sweetness towards the end. Unfortunately not a fan of this. A very floral heavy bourbon that has a bit of caramel sweetness on the finish which seems to be its only redeeming quality to me.

Nose: somewhat muted with fruit notes of apples and pears along with some buttered popcorn and vanilla Palate: immediate notes of butterscotch and vanillla with some pleasant oak spice coming towards the back Finish: short to medium with mostly spice and tiny amount of fruit from the nose

Really light, not too much in the way of flavor that stands out besides dessert-y vanilla and caramel. Lacking any oak-forwardness. Fans of young bourbon might enjoy.

Ethanol-forward. Banana is there with a bit of a raw green/grass flavor. Tastes young. The definition of young. Not bad but undoubtedly young.
