About this bottle

Plantation Trinidad 2009 is a vintage release from the brand for its Birds of Paradise limited edition collection featuring the Scarlet Ibis on its packaging. Distilled in 2009 at Trinidad Distillers Limited, it was made using continuous distillation in multi-column stills before being aged for 11 years in the red brick cellars of TDL in ex-bourbon barrels. Then the rum was shipped to France to further age for 1 year in Maison Ferrand Cognac barrels. There were 24 casks produced and the rum was bottled at 51.8% ABV. Available October 2021.

Toby 1.5

Funky floral aroma, maple syrup, and mild sweetbread from the bottle. Taste...too strong so it has that strong spicy sting of alcohol. Some funk and ripe tropical fruits in the retro-hale. Definitely needs to be in a cocktail to smooth out its harshness. BTDT. Added a healthy dose of water (groan), and I'm smelling honey. However, it does cool down the alcohol heat. Flavor becomes more of a over-ripe tropical fruit. Ratings based on neat sipping.

Initially quite spicy, peppery and hot. Big splash of water tones it down and reveals vanilla, honey, mint, coffee, cinnamon and gentian root notes. Long spicy finish. It’s a challenging rum for me to enjoy neat.
