Open 2 months Nose - Peanut shells, chalk, toffee, star anise, cinnamon, light oak, and medium ethanol. Palate - Peanut brittle, mineral water, gingerbread, clove, tobacco, and powdered sugar. Finish is medium-long with chalky oak, ginger snaps, star anise, burnt marshmallow, and strong ethanol. This is my first Rare Character purchase and I am impressed! I have actually tasted a couple of single barrel picks from local stores that were priced between $110-130, and did not think they were worth the money. But I saw these batch releases get good reviews and sell out fast. Initially, I was disappointed. It had a strong mineral/chalk quality that felt like leftovers from George Dickel, Bardstown, and Wilderness Trail. Shortly after the first crack, it opened up beautifully. It's a little different than the typical profile I gravitate towards, but it's well done at a good price point.
