About this bottle

The eldest of three recent Royal Brackla releases, the 21 year old heads up the distillery's new single malt lineup. Touted as The King's Own Whisky since receiving a royal warrant in the early 19th century, Royal Brackla is known for both its long fermentation period and tall, slowly run stills, producing a profile rich in esters and their fruity notes. Note: As of 2022 the brand has updated its 21 year expression and discontinued this version.

Probs best scotch had 2023. Along with Rich Cacao from Macallun, this one is winning the top notch scotch Ive ever had. Beautiful, gentle, marzipan, warm breeze at nose, kicked in with a bit of a smoke into mouth, peated for a second, showed the pizazz then gone. No bullshit spice or anything other than and after. Beautiful one I try to chase after but climax ends at the moment of its peak then gone. To the whole night Ive been looking for though. Very clear, very striaghforward comparing to Springbank 12 years. Loved this babe way more. Loved Rich Cacao for the layers, this one the rhythm. Nothing too much at the end is my new type now.

An apple juice. Dissapointing for a 21yo whisky, it is exactly as buying a Glen Moray Nas. Bottled at 40%abv. Nose and palate are very simple. On the nose: fresh apples, vanilla and a dim spicyness (cinammon). Palate: coffee, brown sugar, liquorice. Finish oregano herbal note. Seems a lot like a speyside whisky. Very simple and not a worthy 21yo. It is about €90, so that is suspicious enough for a whisky of that age. Overall i give this dram a 68 over 100.

Tried the newer 46 abv Oloroso/Palo Cortado/Pedro Ximenez cask finish and it can be mistaken for a Glenmorangie in a blind tasting with its richly honeyed and fruity flavor profile with some sherry influence. Has notes of honey, almonds, raisins, Luxardo cherries, orange peels, cinnamon, peaches, licorice, cloves, figs, Hazlenuts, milk chocolate, mocha, stewed red apples, pineapples, and toffee.

Confused by the range on this, Get fruit. Get spicy oak. Get sherry notes. But all coming in at different points less normal than most. Will say its complex and I'm finding it tasty. But not an easy one to characterize. I guess I'd say, "go with the experts on this." But hoping additional tastings lead to a more cohesive assessment.

in a world of complexity (yes I'm looking at you flat pack furniture) sometimes all you want is some simplicity. This dram is definitely that, honey, caramel, slight nuttiness and there you have it. I really quite enjoyed this for the dram it was, not one I would necessarily hurry back to but it definitely fitted the mood I was in.

This is a superb drink, but the price makes this whisky so unattainable, considering that you could get many great, some better, whiskeys at the $230 price range.
