Sho Chiku Bai Nigori sake

I know absolutely nothing of sake…in fact, this is my first sake. But while in Rome, do as the Romans. And in my case, I’m at Disney’s EPCOT, specifically having dinner at their Teppen Edo restaurant in the “Japan” part of the world showcase. So..while in Japan, do as the Japanese… I had a pour of this with my spicy tuna sushi, as was recommended by the waitress. It’s a Nigori style, meaning that’s it’s cloudy and unfiltered..the sake version of NCF. Absolutely amazing flavors. It’s silky and velvety, with tastes of coconut milk, melon, sweet tea and cream. And dangerously drinkable. I feel as if I don’t need to dive into another spirit category, I’m quite content with knowing only about red wine and whisky, so I won’t be buying bottles of sake anytime soon. But at least it’s good to know other very affordable good malternatives out there

What is unfortunate about scotch is that it really isn't worth drinking until you hit the $40 price range. While I wouldn't say that this sake is on the same level as a fine bottle of Scotch, its depth of flavor and sweetness really make it stand out. The rich nutty, organic notes are pleasing and the floral sweetness really pops before giving way to a long, finish with no odd notes (somewhat of a rarity among sake). At three times the cost, I would still recommend this sake.

This sake really blew me away. It tastes fantastic, not just good for its price point. It would be worth buying at a few times the cost, making it one of the more solid deals in alcohol. The flavor is rich with multiple dimensions and an appealing sweetness. Fruit and vegetables notes dance with flowers and minerals at the beginning before eventually giving way to a sweet mineral finish with a hint of clean salt.

The flavor is sweet with vegetal, medicinal, and earthy notes. There is a bit of floral fruit. It's a bit chocolatey. It's super creamy. There's some depth here and complexity, but the balance is a bit off and the flavors could use some refinement.

The flavor is balanced with sweetness and richness. It's full with a bit of bitterness that is just enough to balance it out. This is a great drink at a terrific price.
