About this bottle

Contradiction is a bourbon whiskey first released by Smooth Ambler in 2015. It is a blend of both sourced bourbon and bourbon distilled by the brand at their distillery in West Virginia. As the age of the whiskeys has increased in age, the brand has decided to lower the proof and price of Contradiction. The 92 proof version is set to hit shelves August 2018.

One of the first bottles I purchased off a recommendation from the clerk at the store. Open for about 5 months and a little over 1/3 through N(3.75): delightful nose. Gentle though. Sweet honey drizzled over berries initially. After a couple of sips, it transforms into sugared oak with red berries in the back seat. P(3.5): honey covered berries in the front and vanilla and oak in the mid to back pallet with two dashes of spice. Flavors become less pronounced sip after sip. Easy to drink. Just not something interesting enough to study F(3.5): light linger of oak and vanilla. No hug and a tiny bit of spice. Doesn’t wow you but enjoyable. I recommend this as a party drink. You don’t have to pay attention to it but it’s enjoyable.

[2.3.2025] I usually spill the review on the first dram. But truth be told, this bottle was on my shelf for over a year. A Christmas gift from 2023 from my brother-in-law. So much for agreeing we wouldn't exchange gifts. This turned out to be a solid one. Finished the bottle tonight and if there was ever a bourbon for a sweet, stiff old fashioned... This is it. No touch up needed. Just syrup, cherries, orange peel, and a double shot over ice. Initial tastings I thought nothing. But this grew on me - less spicey than Inl expected and more sweet undertones that led me to seek another bottle out for the cupboard.

Flaviar bottle from 06/2022 but just getting around to cracking it!Batch number 463, bottled by Chris. Pour is nice and smooth Color is a pretty medium amber Nose is incredible - caramel overtones with bold rye spice and mint, some licorice First sip is very buttery and very smooth. Chocolate, butterscotch, buttery vanilla, almonds and hints of cherry and banana. Very sweet and nice soft spice. This one is phenomenal and would highly recommend! Refreshingly different and well worth it!

Aroma - banana bread, cherry juice, cake frosting, peach, and orange. Tons of fruit. Really enjoying this as it opens. Taste - its quite nice. Very similar to the nose. Banana bread, cherries and the frosting coming up here again. There’s a bit of spice bite on the finish to round it all out and the alcohol is noticeable. Short-Medium finish. Overall - this is a solid pour for $30. Worth a try.

Very nice bourbon that won’t break the bank. Nice spice on the nose with classic syrupy maple sweetness. Taste translates from nose with a nice spicy palate . Short finish and a tad thin after an initial burst. Nothing to offend and worth an add a good bottle price and lower proof for easy sipping.

Overwhelming grainy notes, like I’m walking in a tall grass field. Medium sweetness, and medium smoothness. Cant describe the flavor but reminds me of walking down cobblestone streets in Quebec & Montreal. Mellows out a lot with a bit of ice! A very nice peppery/grainy finish
