About this bottle

This is the second release in the Founders' Cask Strength Series following a rye bottling which launched in 2021. This straight bourbon, made entirely in-house at Smooth Ambler's facility in West Virginia, is made with their bourbon mash bill #2 (71% corn, 21% rye, and 8% malted barley). It's matured in new American oak (char #4) and matured for 5 years in the Appalachian climate. It's bottled without chill-filtration at a cask strength which will vary for each batch with an expected six to be released per year. The first batch is available as of June 2022 nationwide.

Aroma -massive brown sugar and a light luxardo cherry note. Cinnamon., green tea and bay leaf add a little of a weird note but overall the nose is nice. Taste - Wow.. corn and alcohol really are the dominant notes here. Really a strong punch of that alcohol. Brown sugar, caramel…touch of cinnamon and green listerine mouthwash. Major down fall is the viscosity. The mouthfeel is just a touch too thin for something at this proof in my opinion. The heat on this one really stands out from middle palate to the finish and it kind of hinders its complexity. In fact… their is a very prolonged and noticeable burn and hug to the finish. Overall - Price is absolutely justified at the $60-70 range. But I feel that this would fall short if compared against WT Rare Breed, Jack SB BP, ECBP, Larceny BP, etc. Just lacks complexity and balance on the palate. I love my Cask Strength and whiskeys >120 proof. But I actually feel that this is just too hot. If the proof was in the 110-116, this offering would probably be incredible.
