Unlike my usual approach to reviews, I decided to review the neck pour of this bottle. Enjoyed neat in a glencairn after sitting for about 10-15 minutes. Color - Burnished. Nose - Fresh baked bread, orange peel, vanilla. Green apple. Palate - caramel and brown sugar. Cereal. Vanilla. A little cinnamon spice. This is surprisingly sweet. Finish - medium-long. Vanilla, cinnamon, cherry/stonefruit, and cereal notes linger. Think cinnamon toast crunch cereal with a bowl of fruit with whipped cream on top on the side. Overall - I was skeptical going into this. There are mixed reviews all over the place on this bottle. And I do wonder how this bottle changes now that it’s opened. But I think this is pretty good. Maybe not worth $90 that it costs MSRP. But no doubt enjoyable.
About this bottle
Square 6 Wheated Bourbon is the third release made exclusively at Heaven Hill's Evan Williams Bourbon Experience (EWBE) in Louisville, Kentucky. This artisanal distillery under the supervision of Distiller Jodie Filiatreau has the capacity to produce one barrel per day. For this bottling, there were two wheated bourbon recipes blended after maturation: one used 74% corn, 16% wheat and 10% malted barley and the other used 68% corn, 20% wheat, and 12% malted barley. Bottled at 105 proof, this is available at the EWBE and at select Kentucky retailers beginning June 2023. (SRP $89.99)

Nose is lightly bready, ripe with dark cherry and greets you with a friendly and familiar whiskey nose. On the palate, things are very much in line with what you might expect from a wheated bourbon. Easy going, medium body, nice penetrating oak character, and a tingle of spice and pepper. A solid expression great for sipping or mixing, especially at a extra strength 105 proof. Rock solid release.
Could very easily tell it was a wheated bourbon. Coming off the other Evan Williams bourbons didnt help me out here. All I could taste was the previous two pours and wheaty bread. Need to try again on a fresh palate.
