About this bottle

This expression is made using the brand's flagship bourbon, which is a blended in small batches from a combination of 3-grain and 4-grain mash bill bourbons made with a 100% sweet mash fermentation which were distilled on copper pot stills. It is initially aged for at least 4 years. It is then transferred at cask strength to new heavy toasted and lightly charred barrels for finishing. It is bottled at 103 proof.

Batch B2201 106 proof 4 1/2 years Aroma - Toasted marshmallow, vanilla frosting… Caramel, apples and peaches, pie crust, baking spices. There is a slight cherry cola note towards the back on this one. Very good nose to be honest. Very inviting cannot wait to see if the taste follows the nose. Taste - Caramel with flat cherry cola. Brown sugar.. touch of apples, cinnamon, slight green/herbal tea note.. some rye spice coming through but…. Oh no… Mouthfeel is very thin, finish is underwhelming and quite drying. Damn this finish is insanely drying. Stop it! You son of a *****! Overall - Going to be brutally honest.. I cannot recommend. The aroma was great but the flavor profile is lacking and the finish is just not working for me. The drying aspect happens mid palate and just continues through the finish wiping out all flavors that popped. Save your money and if you want a double oaked product then go with Woodford Double Oaked or OF 1910 to this. Not sure if I will ever venture into the Starlight world again after this offering. This bottle is very disappointing.

SELECTED BY // Brewzle BATCH No. // 22-2316 PROOF // 120.4 AGED // 4.5 Years (American Oak) NEAT NOSE - Caramel, Vanilla, Honey, Graham Cracker, and Sweet Oak PALATE - Decently viscous mouthfeel and rich palate. There is a ton of caramel and honey on the palate. Earlier today, I tried a honey finished bourbon and the finish here is reminiscent of that honey finished bourbon that I tried earlier. Amazing work from Starlight! FINISH - Long finish with lingering honey and vanilla. BUY? - Absolutely BUY AGAIN? - Absolutely. I don’t know the age of the oldest barrels in this blend as its age stated at 4.5 years, but I can’t imagine what some others taste like with age statements of 8+ years!

Batch B2201 American Oak 53% confectionery sweetened oak nose. Harsh up front. Needs time to air out. Charleston chew, molasses, char. Soft but coating feel. Medium finish. Not complex. It is better after you give it some time, but I would take the SB bourbon over this.

SOB home alone pick from Dec 2021. Spicy, hot, heavy cinnamon. Drinks like a red hot. Good, fairly smooth for the age and how hot it is. proof 112.1 *Tasted a t Paynes First log, but not first taste.
