Smells of pine and paint thinner. Golden color, coating the glass, with very slow legs. Hot on the palate, with tastes of wood and leather hiding somewhere behind the harshness. A splash of water doesn't do it any favors, just bringing out earthy mid-tones that don't excite me. I keep wanting to like ryes, but I guess I'm just not there yet.
A German Rye from a German distillery using German Grains finished in ex white wine casks. Interesting! The combination is a typical rye profile which is more rich and earthy blended with dry wine flavours e.g. green pepper. I wouldn't say I'm a big fan but it definitely has style and uniqueness and the flavours blend well.
Nose is a bit of vanilla and some oak. Pallette is some oakiness, with a hint of white grape/white wine flavor and then a bit of spiciness and bite. Finish is a light burn that lingers a bit. Over this is not a bad rye with an interesting white wine flavor mixed in that comes out more as I drink it.
Nose is rather subtle, but it shines going in and down. Everything I'm looking for in a rye.
I am not a fan of the black licorice and artificial sweetener I get on the palate.
