About this bottle

El Mayor Blanco is produced from estate-grown 100% Blue Weber agave harvested in Jalisco. The agaves are cooked in an autoclave rather than an oven and the cooked agaves are shredded with a mill rather than a tahona. Twice distilled in copper-lined pot stills, it is bottled at 80 proof without aging in an attention-getting "swoosh"-shaped bottle.

Neat, older NOM 1143/'swoosh' bottle. Nose is agave, earth/minerals, citrus, vegetal, black pepper. Taste is sweet and pleasant with agave, green herbs (including a hint mint), minerals, black pepper, orange peel, sucralose. Mouthfeel is moderate. Pretty smooth even for a freshly opened bottle Finish is sucralose, brine, pepper. I wouldn't call this a connoisseur's tequila, but it is very drinkable and a step above many sub $20 tequilas. I would be interested in tasting the new blanco from a different contract distillery as I did like the anejo from NOM 1603

The agave plant plays a huge role in act one; it's almost like sipping the plant itself when suddenly the sweetness- subtle at first- kicks in. Like big brother, El Mayor Extra Anejo, the spice and heat are driving forces. If you enjoy earthy, sweet, heat in a blanco... you'll enjoy this for sipping. Good price point and in the final act, it's an award winner... San Francisco World Spirits Competition GOLD MEDAL 2016.

On sale for $20. Usually runs about $25. I love to sip this blanco straight or with a lime wedge. This one tastes way better than the 80 score it got. Maybe time to review it again. I really appreciate the lightness of this tequila, with a slight pervasive sweetness throughout, and a dash of black pepper.

Smells like ogre feet. Horrible. You have to drown out the taste with mixer. It’s half the price of Patron, but 10x worse. Just shell out for the good stuff next time.

NOM 1063. Pleasant. Mineral tang, pepper heat, sweet bamboo. Finishes strange and lacks complexity….sort of like the last episode of Alf.
