Not sure if it’s such a great idea to review another MGP bourbon right after my last one as I’m sure there will be many similar note but this bottle was getting low, so it’s time. Nose is somewhat a departure from normal MGP; getting a lot of cherry and oak. Honestly this smells way more like a BT product. Additional notes of caramel, vanilla, and rye spice. Ethanol is exceptionally low. Not the strongest aroma, but traditional and inviting. Palate features none of the fruit promised in the nose. This one is all caramel chew, wood, and smoke. On the brighter side of those flavors (it is MGP after all) but much less so than other offerings, which I found to be enjoyable. Flavors are rich and punchy. Finish is where things take a downtown; it’s a rough ride. Starts with straight up oak chips, barrel char, and a hint of generic citrus which is just fine but the proof and relatively low age make themselves known in the form of prickly alcohol burn which quickly becomes the dominant flavor, and we all know there are better finishes to be had. It’s long, but most of that is just heat. Mouthfeel is slick and oily. Overall not a bad job for a 4 yr MGP, and I’d say the folks at Proof and Wood do know how to pick a barrel. But ultimately with a flawed finish and pretty common flavor profile it just kind of gets lost in the mix at its proof and price point. At $56, there is no way I can recommend this over the far superior MGP product that is Belle Meade Reserve which happens to be cheaper. No rebuy here.

The Representative Barrel Proof Greens Fsrms Spirits store pick Barrel entry 12/6/17, bottled in 10/20/22 113.54 Proof Glass: Glencairn, rested 15 minutes. Color: Medium amber. Nose: Caramel, marshmallow, and a hint of graham cracker. Palate: Chocolate and marshmallow with some baking spice and clove. Finish: Long length with medium heat. Splash: A dry oaky note and some cinnamon appear with a few drops of water. Overall: 9/10 - Two years after buying it, I finally got around to cracking this bottle, and I really should have opened it sooner. This was far and away a better bottle than the last one I'd tried. From nose to finish, I was impressed.
Color: Light auburn. Nose: Fresh red apples, wet fall leaves, orchard blossoms and sweet cake icing. Light pears and peaches peek through, too. Palate: Tobacco and mint forward, with a heavy dose of cinnamon and cloves. Butterscotch sweetness lengthens the profile. Finish: Dash of salt, about like caramel corn. Medium dry, with a light simmering heat. Diluted: Nose is more candied, with a little cocoa. Palate is softer, mellowed with powdered sugar, but still some rye spice. Finish is shorter and sharper, with a light mineral water aftereffect.
The Representative r/Bourbon Single Barrel Straight Bourbon 112.94 Proof Glass: Glencairn, rested 15 minutes. Color: Medium amber. Nose: Caramel, butterscotch, a hint of marshmallow. Palate: More caramel and butterscotch with some clove and baking spice. Thicker than average mouthfeel. Finish: Low heat but stays with you a while. Splash: No new flavors are revealed. Overall: 7.5/10 - I really wanted to like this more, but it may grow on me. The finish just won't quit.
Nose: Very alcoholic/acetone…. I like it. Once you get past the acetone notes it opens up. Baking spice, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla. Some creamy coconut, redhot candy, light wafts of tobacco snd oiled leather. Palate: Sweet and spice, clove, light honey and some nuttiness. Finish: long, spice that develops on the back end of the lateral sides of the tongue. Super enjoyable and conplex for a 4 year ild bourbon. At $45 USD a bottle you really cant go wrong.
Nose: Fragrant oak, citrus, with a hint of proof Palate: Vanilla, Toffee, and cereal Finish: Medium- Long with tobacco, mint, and herbs This pour packs a punch both on the nose and on the finish, in-between however it's a very vanilla and shortbread profile. A sipper to awaken the senses and a great ingredient for a cocktail.
