About this bottle

The Singleton of Glendullan Select House Tully is one of eight single malts Scotch whiskies made to commemorate the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones. Set to hit shelves in the fall of 2018, this no-age statement single malt bears the sigil of House Tully — a jumping trout.

Game of Thrones? Awesome. House Tully and this bottle of Scotch? Not so much. I'm always a little skeptical when any product goes hard on marketing to generate a lot of hype and attention. So, when there's a non-age statement whisky bottled at 40% ABV, it helps me set the tone that I ought to keep my expectations low. Right off the nose it was a medley of summer fruits and sweetness that screamed Speyside. It was a pleasure identifying each unique note, but when it came to the flavour and taste, it fell flat and failed to deliver. On the palate it was a diminishing combination of sweetness, spice, a hint of peat and something savoury, but it also lacked any sort of depth. The finish was significantly short which begs me to wonder if this batch had been mistakenly watered down. It wasn't difficult to sip, but that's also because it lacked any complexity. Overall, like House Tully, I'd argue that this underwhelming Scotch has potential. It's not impressive nor praiseworthy, but aging it a few more years may have done it some good. There's nothing about this single malt I'd write home about, but if you're into the Game of Thrones and enjoy collecting things, then this one's for you. NOSE: Dried cherry, peach, apricot, malt, green tea, vanilla custard PALATE: Honey, nutmeg, cloves, hint of peat FINISH: Malted barley, light peat, cherries, dried cranberries, lychee, sea salt, earthiness Rating: 74/100 Grade: C Below average – drinkable, but better as a mixer / party booze.

N: Orchard fruit and dark berries - raspberry and blackberry. Something salty there too - not exactly sea spray, but similar idea that's hard to describe. Hint of some sour fruit too. Bit of cherry cough syrup, which is actually pleasant. Pretty solid. P: Rich at first, but fades in the middle. Same flavors as above, plus maybe a cornbread sweetness like you'd expect from a bourbon - a bit odd in a single malt. Vanilla builds over time. Finish is clove and cinnamon spice, but watered down a bit by the wimpy middle mouthfeel. Despite generally poor reviews, it's not bad. I wish it hung on in the middle a little longer as it's tough to call a scotch both watery and good, but this comes dang close. Hard to tell if "watery" is meant as a feature or a bug here, given the trout sigil on the bottle. (I have seen GOT, but definitely do not know enough to grasp the meaning of the family this bottle represents - some intended inside joke might be lacking a punchline in my brain.) I picked this up because it seemed like the only bottle not horribly overpriced in the shop I was at, and that seems about as good of a reason to try this as any other. Your mileage may vary.

I was looking forward to this. Hell I was looking forward to any of the GOT releases. I figured once the show devolved into hot turds before our very eyes that like all other related merch, the prices of these “affiliated” releases would drop like Tyrions trousers in a brothel. So far this is the only one to prove my theory correct. This is, like House Tully, mired in mediocrity. It’s not very memorable. A bit honey sweet, a faint whisp of smoke somewhere far away. Kind of lifeless and with a weak finish. Still though it left a better taste in my mouth than the pathetic and maddening end to the saga that serves as its inspiration. For that you’d need a bottle of actual hot turds. This isn’t that. It’s just sort of meh.

Nose: light and fortified, raisins and spices. Palate: always fortified, almost as if there was a component of maturation in the sherry or marsala (I don't know where they come from), light coffee, seed oil, dried fruit, raisins. Final: short and pungent, it tends to go towards bitter. Nothing unforgettable. Rating 3.75 _______________________________________________________ Naso: leggero e liquoroso, uvetta e spezie. Voto 3,75

(Vita Dulcis Advent Calendar 1/24) Nose: cinnamon, sweet white wine, icing, white nougat, floral notes, soft and creamy and quite light but vibrant with its 40% ABV, also a somewhat savory note as well like tomato and cooked green peppers (2.25) Palate: light and sweet, gentle and non-intrusive, like popsicles with a light chili burn, a hint of rusk as well (2.75) Finish: not very pleasant, in the end actually a weird bitter note like aspirin or grape seeds (almost like that taste of the stuff from inside of a Dandelion stem.) (1.75) Verdict: underwhelming, the nose and palate are ok and easily sippable but the finish is not good at all

It is exactly what you expect from every singleton, a light fruit juice. This one is the Game of Thrones special edition, from the "House Tully", it is called "Select". Another NAS whisky intended for collection. Bottled at 40%abv On the nose, very fruity. Green apples, some clove, pears, acetone, sider, apricots. On the palate is very spicy actually, i was not expecting that. Not unpleasant at all, actually it is a mixture of spices. Mostly herbal spices like rosemary and clove. Peppery and clove finish, long but dim. Actually not a bad whisky, but i wouldn't buy it since you can get much better for the same price. 78/100.
