It is brought to bottling proof with Rocky Mountain spring water. This release is available nationally, but with limited availability.

Dark amber/ruddy copper color, fair viscosity. Nose is definitely dominated by the barrel, as would be expected... Cherry, vanilla, a hint of cacao. Plenty of Rye underneath there with some grassy/herbal/minty notes and musty hay/ grain bin. Front is a surprise... Much sweeter than I expected, with maraschino, bing cherries, raisins and vanilla frosting. Rye spices emerge mid palate, after the swallow. Decent length finish, with more cacao, toasted coconut and sends off with a dry, almost bitter oaky note. My initial impression is that it's not what I'd expect from a $55 bottle, but I guess that's the world we're in now.

I was pleasantly surprised by this recent pickup. Rich amber color. Sweet oak, some vanilla, graham crackers, and a hint of spice on the nose. The flavors follows the nose mostly. The real surprise for me was how awesome the mouthfeel and finish were. It coats the mouth well and the finish sticks around. For 84 proof?!?, I still can’t believe it. Overall: I’m very impressed with this bottle. For $35 and it’s just sitting on the shelf?? I think I found a good option for a lower proof, 10 year whiskey that isn’t named Eagle Rare. I’ll have to blind them soon to figure out the winner.

Have to update my review after trying some more stuff. Its good but for the money there are much better ones. Smelling it out of the bottle I got some raspberry and maybe cherry on the nose, in the glass I am getting brown sugar as opposed to the usual caramel nose. Sipping it, boy where to start, this has so much going on. Brown sugar, licorice, cherry, oak, maybe a little pear, a very very light spice. Extremely bold flavor and the finish is lasting with a tingling mouth and a nice brown sugar after taste. Extremely pleasant.

The nose is very mild with vanilla, butterscotch, cherry syrup, brown sugar and a touch of oak and rye spiciness. Oak comes through stronger on the palate balanced by vanilla, while the rest of what was on the nose falls in line very subtly, while the rye stays nicely in the background but enough is there to have a presence. The finish is medium with lingering oak and vanilla while rye fades nicely. Overall a very nice whiskey to sip on and is deceivingly smooth, but at the same time could stand to be a bit more aggressive.

NEAT NOSE - Cherries, Caramel, Vanilla and Oak PALATE - Extremely smooth and easy going down. There is a good bit of sweetness on the front end with a pleasant body of oak. The slightest hint of cherries and caramel come through on the end. FINISH - Incredibly smooth sipper. No burn whatsoever. Medium finish. BUY? - Yes. BUY AGAIN? - I can easily see myself replacing this one when the bottle is done. It’s nice that its so available. I look forward to trying the 14 YR. Next!

Flaviar advent calendar day #18 Nose: sweet cornbread, honey orange peel, baking spices, spicy oak char. A subtle vanilla Palate: cinnamon brown sugar, a hint of maple syrup. Sweet, spicy oak char. Vanilla. A light fruitiness, a bit of orange zest. Smooth. Cereal/corn as it transitions to finish. Hint of black pepper Finish: Lingers for a respectable amount. Warm, baking spice, oak char, faint vanilla. Ends with an unopposed clove note.
