I believe this is the second release ever from one of Scotland's newest distilleries, Torabhaig. Allt Gleann, means "Old Glen". Smoke and brine, is the slogan of this expression, let's see if it is any good. Bottled at 46%abv, pale straw color. On the nose, it is very crazy and complex. Pineapple, grapefruit, cotton socks, agave and gooseberries.  It smells like a pond and also like a mexican Mezcal. Tuna. So plastic and artificial, soot. It is a fishmarket. On the palate it is very sweet! Vanilla, coconut, creamy meringue and a Coppertone bronzer. Aftertaste is strong and powerful in a good way. It is like fully inhaling a cigar smoke. Salt and pepper; very maritime. Ceviche. Overall this is a very good offering if you consider that it is a very young whisky (less than 5yo). The complexity of the nose can be too much craziness for some people and i totally understand that, but if you are a peat head, you'll never think of this one as a bad dram. I am eager to taste more new expressions from this distillery, my score for this one is 89 over 100.

(Good Spirits Co. Glasgow – Virtual Whisky Tasting, 17 September 2021). Nose: Salt/brine, light peat, smoke, vanilla, honey Palate: Gently - but punchy - sweet peat and smoke. Oily, nutty, fennel/aniseed, slightly floral. Lightly medicinal. Salt/brine. Spirit driven. Finish: Medium short finish. Green/herbal, light sweet fruitiness, more salt/saline. Dry smoke. Similar to their fist expression, there’s a green/herbal and slightly medicinal note. Unlike the original this doesn’t sour so much on the finish. A more pleasant dram and really heading in the right direction. Still a little young tasting, but not to distraction. Spirit driven - not much evidence of cask influence. Came joint first out of the six drams, with 29% (6 votes) of the final vote for favourite of the night. 86% (18 votes) of those present said they enjoyed the whiskey. I had already bought a bottle of this before the tasting.

The advent of Torabhaig and Ardnamurchan was among the most exciting developments in whisky this year, announcing that Scotland was just as able to birth promising new distilleries as the rest of the world. I liked the first release from Torabhaig so much I joked that they must have stolen their spirit from neighbor Talisker, but this second release isn’t as strong overall. The nose is sublime: toffee, butterscotch and barley, joined after after a while by grapefruit and lemon before the butterscotch returns. But the palate is thin and woody, with a touch of lemon the only echo of the nose. Disappointing then, but this whisky is still young and I look forward to it realizing more of its potential next year.

NOSE Waxy – candied – vanilla, minerality, smoke, citrus, malty sweetness and some copper. Obviously young and spirit-driven, but nothing off-putting. It’s actually kinda nice. PALATE Minerality, smoke, waxy – candied – vanilla, malty sweetness, briny saline, and some copper and light citrus and butterscotch. Surprisingly tasty and multi-faceted given what this is. I’m digging it. FINISH Long -> Peat, caramel, oak, malt and a light sweetness fade out warmly.

hugely peat forward, almost overly so. compared to laphroaig or ardbeg, seems to have less going on under the peat. good but maybe a one trick pony. it is a presumably young whisky since it has no age statement. i’ll update as I work through the bottle. maybe something more will develop, or maybe I will develop

Nose is standard peat smoke for this style of dram. Theres a little spirit burn suggesting a younger spirit Plenty flavour on the palate with smoked meats being one of the more prominent tastes I find the finish short and underwhelming again pointing at a younger spirit being masked by a highish ppm
