About this bottle

TX Straight Bourbon Barrel Proof is made by Firestone & Robertson Distilling Co. in Fort Worth. The mash bill is made with yellow dent corn and soft red winter wheat sourced from Sawyer Farms located just an hour south of the distillery. Additionally, the yeast strain is a proprietary wild yeast strain sourced from a pecan nut. The Barrel Proof version is uncut and unfiltered with the proof, age, and "harvest date" of when the barrels were dumped listed on the bottle. As is the nature of batch bottlings, expect the proof to vary.

This is my first time trying any TX bourbon, and I'm jumping right in with the Barrel Proof version. The nose is hot with a bit of vanilla and caramel. I tasted this neat then on ice. Much more spice and oak neat. You really taste all that 118 proof drinking straight from the glen. Pour this one over ice in a rocks glass and the sweetness comes to life. You get rich notes of caramel and a cinnamon kick. I get a lot of sweet corn as well. Nice finish, with nothing offensive on the aftertaste. This is a nice craft bourbon, not overly complex, but it's very sippable.

Aroma is sweet, caramel with woody oak. Smells like the regular TX , taste is somewhat similar but on steroids. Has the sweet vanilla hits, caramel but with a barrel proof of 127.4 it gets your attention very quick. But it’s still very very drinkable. Faired better with a bourbon cube added to it. I do like it much better than their first run TX Bourbon I had a few years ago. Well done.

My sample said 118.8 proof, not 130. The nose is classic bourbon: burnt sugar with just a hint of grassy vanilla and oak. The palate follows suit with a punch of ethanol and a hint of dark dried fruit. The finish is medium-long. This is so much better than the straight bourbon and the blended whiskey.

For 65% ABV this was smoother than I expected. Mind you, it still has a potent sting , but it’s not from any acrid odor… just the super high proof. That said, it’s really warm with a pleasant charred wood character and notes of pecan. Touch of caramelized pecan on the backend, maybe honey.

Nose: Mature, cream cheese frosting, flaky pie crust. Going back after tasting, berry and cream cheese danish. Palate: vanilla cream and smooth spicy caramel pudding. Tastes like a wheater, but it’s not, which means it’s just well-rounded.

Rich caramel, vanilla, sweet orange, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and weathered oak show up in a nose that is cranked to 11. The taste is similar with added notes of raisin, fig, and a brown sugar glaze. Rich and oily… tastes like a winner.
