Josh Goldman 5.0

Produced and bottled in Oxnard, California at Sespe Creek Distillery by David Brandt, PhD. who was developing diabetes and cancer drugs and groundbreaking disease-testing techniques before turning his attentions to distilling. The Warbringer is not a subtle whiskey, this bourbon brings the smoke to the campfire. It is expertly crafted with a mash bill of 75% hand-roasted, mesquite-smoked corn and malted rye with a taste that is deep and smoky that ends with hints of pine, honey, cresol and burnt sugar. Exploding with banana and campfire, tempered by a vanilla creaminess with a long, herbaceous finish that is not as smoky as it smells. The Warbringer is a true expression of the Southwest, if you love BBQ and whiskey, this is your perfect dram. It’s a balanced and interesting whiskey that is helping to define a new category. The mesquite-smoked bourbon holds up neat and also makes for an adventurous twist on cocktails.

Pleasing nose of smokey bananas foster mixed with corn syrup and Sweet Baby Rays BBQ sauce dripping onto hot mesquite charcoal briquettes. Similar notes tantalize the palate while the ethanol is a little biting. The finish is long, sweet and smokey, while leaving a prickly sensation on the tongue and cheeks.

"This is the absolute worst whiskey I have ever tried. Twelve guys from my whiskey group did a blind tasting of 14 separate whiskies (including sone real duds) and this was a resounding dead last. We all agreed it was harsh and nasty, like drinking Hoppes 9 gun cleaner. Just bad."

Warbringer is delicious! Glad I found this California bourbon. It's like buttery popcorn, with a sprinkle of sugar and then BBQ'd over a mesquite campfire. And it changes with every sip somehow. It's honestly the best bourbon I've ever had.

Undeniably one of the most unique Bourbons in California. It's incredibly smoky in all the right ways and has a thick, rich character that is perfecting for sipping. It may sound odd but it works very well with a splash of iced tea over rocks.

The first thing that comes to mind is "Wow!" The taste is so unique, with mesquite upfront and then evolving into a heavy, robust notes of caramel, redwood and bacon. Absolutely delicious, and the perfect drink with burgers!
