Deep aroma, beer is present but I don't know beer well enough to ID it. Explosion of flavor, super fiery and spicy. Caramel, porter, and burn, all blended together. Medium rich, medium tail, spice and porter flavors linger the longest. The depth here makes it so enjoyable. Excellently done.
About this bottle
Westland Lucky Envelope Cask Exchange is the fourth release in the brand’s Cask Exchange program. Westland sends used whiskey barrels to a brewery and they in turn use them to age their beer before sending them back to the distillery. Lucky Envelope Brewery based in the Ballard neighborhood in Seattle was selected for this bottling with its Imperial Stout seasoning the barrels. Additionally, those casks once held malbec wine in its life cycle. The American single malt was a five-malt barley blend which ran through the still immediately after a peated spirit was run. Aged for 69 months, this is bottled at 102.6 proof. Sales limited to Washington State.

This Westland cXe expression is rich and creamy. It’s amazing how much body the beer aging adds to the final product. I’ve loved exploring these drams as they’ve been released. These are amazing gems if you can get them.
I’d sip on this smokey tart whiskey again if someone else bought it but it’s not my favorite offering from Westland. Dried fruit comes through with a finish of coffee.
Dark chocolate and velvet mouth finish. Bright heat
