About this bottle

Westland's Peat Week 2021 is scheduled for 26-28 January 2021 and it will be held virtually. This year marks the seventh annual event and as such, the distillery is releasing two single cask festival bottlings, each one aged over 7 years. Single cask #438 was made from Baird's heavily peated malt and it matured for 89 months in a first-fill ex-bourbon barrel. It was bottled at 61.4% ABV.

TheNeonDram 4.0

Of all the Peat Week releases I’ve been able to try, the 7th Annual Peat Week was one of my favorites. The idea of a twin release was enticing, offering a dual experience, or one of two options you could choose based on your own taste preferences. Ex-bourbon Cask doesn’t have the varied richness of the Ex-Rum Cask, but dispite the high proof (122.8!), seems more controlled and deliberate in its execution. The tones are more traditional, rooted in wood, vanilla, and baking spices. It’s genuinely incredible that one can get so much detail from this dram while the heat continues to rise through your chest and throat. It’s an absolute tragedy more people outside of WA never had the chance to try these releases. Westland never disappoints. Finished: 08/26/2022
