Of all the Peat Week releases I’ve been able to try, the 7th Annual Peat Week was one of my favorites. The idea of a twin release was enticing, offering a dual experience, or one of two options you could choose based on your own taste preferences. In this case, the ex-rum cask is deeply satisfying, elegantly rich, while undeniably boisterous, coming in at a whopping 121.6 proof (Of the two releases, this isn’t even the highest proof!) It’s creamy, offering tropical notes of melon, pineapple, and papaya. The finish is lush, lingering on the longer side. Unsurprisingly, this one heats up and finds its way deeply into your chest. You will remember it for a while after it’s gone. What a trip! Finished: 08/26/2022
About this bottle
Westland's Peat Week 2021 is scheduled for 26-28 January 2021 and it will be held virtually. This year marks the seventh annual event and as such, the distillery is releasing two single cask festival bottlings, each one aged over 7 years. Single cask #6732 was made from Baird's heavily peated malt and it matured for 89 months. It was aged first in a first-fill ex-bourbon barrel. Then it was placed in an ex-rum cask from Mount Gay. It was bottled at 60.8% ABV.
