The nose starts with charred oak and rye spice that is mostly fruity, with a floral essence. There are hints of green apple and a buttery smoothness that has this seem very inviting. The palate swirls around the mouth, hitting all the corners with a burst of spice and slight nuttiness. Sharp, floral rye crosses over the tongue with slight notes of buttery oak coming in last. The rye is definitely the star of this whiskey, making it very enjoyable for a spicier bourbon that gives you the impression you are drinking a straight rye. The finish is long with a lasting chewy rye spice, lighting up the mouth with each chew. Creamy oak rounds it out in the background, giving it a wonderful smoothness. This bourbon will get very interesting with more age.

5/12/2023 - Opened this KBT purchase to celebrate Laurie announcing her retirement! What a great choice; very nice sipper with a great nose, flavorful palate and mellow warming finish. Looking forward to re-visiting this one again soon.

All the good qualities of the standard high rye. The nose adds a deep oak. The palate adds a depth and a note of cotton candy. The age is an improvement for sure.
