Nose - Smells very young, light "gently" aged new make rye, toasted grain sweetness, unripe pineapple Taste - Sharp sweet young whisky, very young rye spice, lightly floral, unripe pineapple sweet/sharpness Finish - Lingering young spirit sweetness, raw ethanol, unripe pineapple sweet/tart Score - 48/100 Final Thoughts - This smelled like colored new make rye. Almost like they took their new make & poured it into the bottle in a heavily charred oak funnel. The super harsh new make astringency is faint, but very present. Has a nice floral/tropical fruit aspect to it, but definitely needs much more time in wood to mellow out and round things out. Would I drink it if offered? - No Would I specifically order it? - No Would I buy a bottle? - No

An intense, Rye Whiskey by Zuidam Distillery in the Netherlands. It is a 100% Small Batch, 100% handmade with 100% rye grain, 100% small pot still distillation, matured for 100 months in 100% new American oak barrels & 100 Proof. It has an aromatic birth with notes of rye, chocolate, pepper, spices, grass, orange blossom, roasted lemon, a hint of thyme, brown sugar & sweet Bourbon; while a full & creamy life adds notes of lemon, pine, toasted oak, cinnamon, malted barley, pepper & sweet rye; that leads to a warming death of medium length with notes of cardamom & waxy fruits. October / December 2020 / August 2022
There is mild caramel, mild pepper, herbal notes, spearmint, dashes of anise, dark breadiness, a pronounced fruitiness similar to orange, maybe some prune. The finish has eucalyptus/menthol note, more intense baking spice and white pepper. I enjoyed this rye alot, it has alot of character and quality. the price is a bit steep as id be alot more prone to purchasing around 70 bucks but i wont complain as my fav thing about this whiskey is that the grain is milled by windmills (i just think thats neat as hell). Would reccomend grabbing if you are in the market for a sipping rye
This is a unique rye, I have had many rye, none like this. It is very fresh on the nose like being the first on the golf course in the morning. You also get a ton of rye bread, like your fixin to make a delicious peppered pestrami sandwich. The palate is a bit thin, but a lot of classic rye flavors really come through. Pepper, spice, rye and grass are all here, but it tastes a little thin to me. Most of the rye I have on my collection is cask strength, so this feels like the Miller Light of rye, but that's how the Europeans roll, apparently...
3cL Sample from Fine Drams. Nose: cumin, toffee, tobacco, cooked apricot Palate: Very SWEET custard. Honey and caramel. Super mild spice. This is all short lived, though. Finish: Also Sweet, but some more smoke and heat. Lingering Pretty unique compared to other tastes today. I think this is a cheaper bottle if in Europe & is likely worth it for a moderately older rye than stuff at a similar price point in the US.
This took a few months to open up, but it finally has started to sing. Dark, leathered fruits, strong pepper and spice, rich, ginger bread like background. The nose is probably its best component, just fantastic. It does have a higher alcohol presence then many, especially up front and in the first few months of opening. Let this one breathe. Having said that, it is always a Rye. Spicy.
