About this bottle

Named after the 10th Mountain Division -- soldiers trained in the mountains of the western United States to prepare them for the climates of the Alps during WWII -- 10th Mountain Bourbon is the result of a Kickstarter campaign to bring a distillery to the ski town of Vail, Colorado. Their bourbon is aged 6 months and made from Colorado grains.

Great young bourbon. Nose is cherry and caramel and maple syrup. Fairly bold and complex given age. Palate is corn forward and slightly waxy. Round with shorter finish. Would recommend. I use the rating scale below. Distiller uses a scale of 5 and I use a scale of 10, but I’m sure you’re not too drunk to do the math! 1. Disgusting - So bad I poured it out. 2. Poor - I wouldn't consume by choice. 3. Bad - Multiple flaws. 4. Below average - Not bad, but many things I'd rather have. 5. Good - Just average. 6. Very Good - Better than average. 7. Great - Well above average. 8. Excellent - In a league of its own. 9. Incredible - An all-time favorite. 10. Perfect

Flaviar sample box “Spirit of the Rockies” December, 2022 Sample A Pour: Smooth and appears watery Color: Lightest of the bunch, a golder corn Nose: grassy, hay, mint with some fruit like coriander First taste: BARLEY (sweet), VERY GREEN, earthy, some very sweet popcorn Lingering: fruits emerge, but barley flavor lingers Finish: prolonged ethanol flavor, no real caramels or vanillas Score: 2

Surprisingly good for such a young bourbon. Having lived in the Vail Valley in the past I only expected this to be a nostalgic purchase after a recent rerun trip 20 years after leaving. Pleasantly surprised by the smoothness of this one. Doesn't have a great nose but is deceptively delicious to me.

So, it is a very young bourbon. I think it has potential, but needs to age a bit. Probably relying on the marketing as the bottle is very nice. As for taste it is caramel and spices, but it runs away so fast that I’d you aren’t really trying, you probably will miss it.

10th Mountain is an outstanding bourbon for the price and time that it is aged. The nose is kind of strong but the taste is delicious with spices. I think I taste a tad bit of cinnamon and maybe some mint. Absolutely recommend if available ].

New and actually very complex and smooth. Has a nice vanilla and oak taste. It has a good finish that is light and sweet. Maybe a bit harsh, but that is fleeting.
