About this bottle

Released in 2011, and signed with the Bacardi seal 'El Ron del Murciélago' (the rum of the bat), Oakheart rum is Bacardi's latest foray into the spiced rum category. It is aged in heavily charred oak before being filtered. Spices are then added and it is bottled at 70 proof.

With my hatred to Bacardí itself and it's inferior basic rums, I actually enjoyed this one, when it came to market. With price tag around up to 7 EUR for bottle, it was awesome spiced rum around. The sweet spicy nutmeg cinnamon taste was unbeatable then. But now, with tag 10 EUR and up you can get much better bottles. Not with that intense sweet taste, but with actually better rum. Sometimes I miss Oakenheart, on the rocks, or with cola. But not that much to go and buy a bottle. Still, if you want to get easy reachable spiced rum, and not burn your intestines with Morgan's, but you're still too much wuss to get at least Sailor Jerry, this is excellent choice.

I rather like this for being such an inexpensive rum! I get my sweet rum that goes well with a cola or alone. Strong caramel aroma with rootbeer. In the mouth it's smooth with the strong caramel again, a little butterscotch, and some rootbeer but that's mostly in the finish. Keeping it in the mouth the flavor transitions into hints of banana & vanilla. Works well for mixed drinks where sweetness and caramel are wanted. No matter how it's downed the spice is not obtrusive and comes on more at the end. Rating is based on neat sipping.

For the same price range as Gold, there's no question which is better, spiced or not. It has a basic, vanilla-forward profile, with a nice balance of oak. Not like alcoholic charcoal, like the Gold. I wasn't expecting to enjoy this, but it was actually pretty pleasant. It's a bit sweet overall, but it actually mixes wonderfully with no surprises. It's an easy thing to keep stocked with how cheap it is. I think I still prefer my Captain Morgan 100 over this though, but this is not a bad selection.

Light rum drink for rest. Spices, caramel, absence of pronounced alcohol. If you consider that this is the reincarnation of Bacardi Spices, then the overall estimate here is clearly underestimated.

Aromas of nail polish remover and whiskey, with a lingering hint of brown sugar. Taste is sweet, with notes of banana and brown sugar, though the alcohol burn never fully fades.”

Solid spiced rum. Has a warm spice with strong vanilla notes. Less buttery notes than most rums. Fairly dry for a rum but seems a bit watered down. Very smooth.
