Kōloa Kaua'i Spice Rum

Aroma from the bottle is mostly vanilla and sugar cookie, but there's some molasses and allspice far in the background. Mmm, there's the rootbeer aroma after a couple minutes in the glass and it becomes rather dominant (not complaining). Flavors...oh my...yes, definitely getting that Christmas vibe! Sweet but not overpowering. Vanilla, honey, rootbeer, and some nutmeg in the flavors, along with an oiliness in texture. I'm gonna have to get a full-sized bottle of this! I think this will make a better flavored sipper instead of the regular coconut versions. This is a spiced rum i can get behind. Rating based on neat sipping.

Continuing Koloa Tasting with distiller Bob Gunter (Tasted 4th) Per the Distiller: Their standard white rum infused with cinnamon, nutmeg, and white peppercorn. 3.23.22 Served: Neat, Flute Bottle Open: Same Day Last intake: Dark Rum Aroma: Much like root beer, vanilla, honey, and nutmeg notes. Flavor: Vanilla, cinnamon, snickerdoodle cookie. Some sweetness balances out the heat. I could drink this all day. My favorite spiced rum that I've tried so far. Not cloying, not artificial. Would do well in christmas cocktails, but I would choose to drink this neat.

While here in Kauai, I convinced the family to make a quick pit stop at the Koloa rum tasting. Four rums, all quite decent—but this one here was my favorite. Christmas in a bottle. You get cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg and brown sugar on the nose. Palette is the same. Surprisingly not sweet at all, and would be an amazing fall sipper The sheer amazing natural beauty of the Garden Isle probably added a bit of bias to the score…but nonetheless, this was the one bottle I gladly shelled out $30 for a purchase.

If this is available near you then buy it. My go to rum. Couldn't care less about the non aging this stuff is ultra smooth and not overly sweet. I often have it with a single ice cube. On my third bottle.

Nice and spicy with a buttery flavour. You can taste the cinnamon and cloves. Has a spicy aftertaste. Overall a nice drink. Would be amazing in a mixed cocktail.

Balanced and delicious. Not sicky sweet or a vanilla bomb like other spiced rums. Long smooth finish.
