About this bottle

Baker Beam, nephew of Jim Beam, is the namesake for this installment of the Small Batch Collection. Baker's is the second youngest, but next to highest proof in the collection and utilizes a yeast strain that has been in the family for more than 60 years. Note: As of October 2019, Beam announced that this Small Batch Bourbon would now be sold as a single barrel offering. The bourbon will still be aged for at least 7 years and be bottled at 107 proof.

Nose - nutty and leather. Oak and orange zest. This is the umami of whiskey. All rich and intense. Taste- sweeter than the nose but followed by some spice and heat. I expected this to be more like a Booker's but it's a different direction and I like it. More clove and spice balanced with the caramelized sweetness. A tiny bit of bitterness is the only distraction but to be fair I am drinking this against a 2019 George T Stagg so take that with some salt.

This is a good classic bourbon. I like the proof and extended finish. I like the pleasant caramelized peanut/popcorn fragrance. I don’t like the price. I think this should be about $20 cheaper. It’s not interesting enough to be subject to price hikes and bourbon spotting adventures. I’d probably not buy again but that’s mostly because at the price point (even at msrp) there are better whiskies. Other tasting notes: Baking spice, cloves and syrup

80 Rich spice Butterscotch Cinnamon spice Black pepper Spicy chew Dark fruit plum pomegranate Light vanilla Caramel Light smokiness that compliments the entire experience. And I do not like smoke. Spice hits hard Fruit has a longgggggg finish, that sweet/tart plum just lingers on forever Very well made I may get a bottle This bourbon does make you want to come back for more.

OK, so I had a bottle of this years ago. Now back for a review. Baker's Small Batch, not the new one. I consider this a standard Bourbon caramel Bourbon. But this is also among the top Bourbons that really needs a few drops of water. Brings it to life. Lots of baking spice and some pepper bloom and the finish is longer with some cinnamon.

2.5 stars - Very nice; multiple bar pours Tastes like Jim Beam white label with all the rough edges polished off. This used to be in limbo on the store shelf. Terrible branding. Jim Beam Bottle in Bond, Jim Beam Single Barrel, and Bookers were all better value-for-your-money picks. Very glad to see Bakers got completely refreshed.

Smells of butterscotch and bit of orange zest. Taste is similar to the smell but the cross between sweet and a little spicy makes it interesting flavors of butterscotch, orange, with some of the bit coming from flavors of peppercorns and wood spice. Medium finish sticks around just as long as you would like it too.
