About this bottle

The Origin Series is the brand's first estate-distilled collection with 100% of production from distilling to bottling handled at Bardstown Bourbon Co. This bottled-in-bond bourbon release is one of three core releases in the series. It was made with locally sourced corn and wheat grains (20% wheat, 68% corn, 12% malted barley) and was aged for 6 years. Bottled at 100 proof, it's available as of December 2022 at select US retailers. (SRP $49.99)

I was a big fan of Bardstown Bourbon Company's Origin Series Wheated Bourbon and much to my surprise, I am able to find that, their Bottled in Bond selection and the standard bourbon in abundance at my local Total Wine. Considering the quality and value for dollar proposition of this lineup, I'm quite pleased that they are so readily available. The nose on this selection is sweet and rich. Caramel drizzled over sweet peach ice cream really brings to mind dessert. Deeper in the nose you'll find some classic americana - a payday bar with its nutty, roasty peanuts and sweet sticky caramel. This nose makes one think that the taste will be cloying. The start of the taste is sweet cream and apricot jam but interestingly enough, the mouthfeel isn't thick as one would think from the nose. Also, there is a surprising amount of fruit on the palate. Besides the apricot, some orange marmalade, and overripe cherries add to the fruity bouquet joined with some slightly tannic lemon rind. There's also an underlying bittersweet dark cocoa powder thing going on. Speaking of bittersweet, that's the theme to the finish. Its a long one; belied by the somewhat thinner mouthfeel. Tannic oak and dark chocolate take center stage with some slightly spicy cracked black pepper and cinnamon. It's not terribly complex but is very balanced and enjoyable. I think their Wheated selection just barely edges it out for me when compared with this Bottled in Bond but really, both are excellent bourbons and at SRP, screaming value for money. As they're so readily available, you may as well get out there and buy up the core offerings in this line up.

Distilled fall of 2017. Give this time in the glass. Even after being open almost 8 months, it still wants more time. When you see the heavy lace starting to climb the walls, it’s ready. Nose is rather muted. Dried peanuts in the shell, hard caramel candies, the faintest hint of honey. Palate is much better. Rich and sweet and oily, the peanuts dominate but there’s a nice backdrop reminiscent of homemade honey nougat that seamlessly ties the nuts with the cinnamon and baking spices. Small sips with a lot of air bring out a lighter taste of school-lunch fruit salad, and a lot more cinnamon. Roll this around for a few seconds and you’ll also get some figs and dates. Transition is medium, and carries all the peanut and cinnamon and nougat to a slightly tannic and drying close that somehow still manages to feel rich. Flavors are very nicely integrated, and it’s obvious there was a lot of thought put into this mashbill, the barrels, and the aging. If the nose was just a little better, this would be a standout at any price. As it is now, this is a great drink for a good and fair price, and you should buy a bottle and give it a try.

Notes of apple and fruit juice on the nose . Palate is sweet and also contains the fruity sweetness of apple cider and vanilla extract. Nice pour , but something i need to be in the right mood for . Some evenings its a wonderful pour and orher nights i feel the sweetness is just to distracting when i am searching for a more traditional oak richness . But for the price you cant go wrong by having this bottle in your bar for when you are looking these flavors whether its nighly or just a few times a year.

I may be way off on this but im getting almost a green apple sourish note to this one, which is then followed by a buttery sweetness and Im really enjoying it. So right away on the mouth feel Im getting a nice richness and viscosity. On the front of the palate its got a nice subtle vanilla sweetness to it. Then it lingers nicely through the finsih with a soft cinnamon flavor while warming my chest on the way down. Really nice sip. One of my favorites!

On the nose it comes across with a lot of heat with an underlying sweetness. Not sure if the heat is the proof, rye, or baking spice. The sweetness is might be from honey, vanilla, or something else. On the palate you get a much different profile. The sweetness is still there but have a more of a berry note with the honey. The heat that is there on the nose really toned down.

Good strong legs, they hold their position well. Color in small quantities in glen cairn glass makes it look shiny gold next to the light. Shimmers, forehadowing the sweet vanilla milk chocolate note you get within the initial taste. Theres a new lemon custard finish that sits in the back of your tongue. Lingers for a while. Great bottle, i would buy one for my self.
