Prickly rye spikes from the get-go. But, what makes this intriguingly different from the majority of rye whiskies, is the sherry cask staves really cutting through and adding a hefty dose of grape. This may not be for everyone, but it defintiely works. Surprisingly, even at 105 proof, this is a very approachable spirit that has an autumnal character.
About this bottle
This whiskey begins with Kentucky straight rye (95% rye, 5% malted barley) distilled by Owensboro Distilling Co. and is aged at least 2 years. Then rye is dumped and batched into a tank and further aged with selected oak staves. In this case, 40% were ex-bourbon barrel staves, 40% new French oak staves, and 20% sherry oak staves. Bottled at 105 proof, this updated version was released in late January 2022.

It packs some heat but so many flavor profiles. I got this for a steal at a discount liquor shop in Missouri. I’d buy it again. Great with one large ice mold
95/5 rye mellow with a kick of spice
