About this bottle

When pirates ruled the Seven Seas, they were known to partake of a spiced grog called Bumbu made from ingredients procured in their travels. The modern take of this concoction consists of spices and sugarcane selected from 8 countries - Barbados, Belize, Brazil, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guyana and Honduras. It is distilled at the West Indies Rum Distillery in Barbados. The rum is aged in first-fill bourbon casks with the oldest spirit aged 15 years. It's bottled at 35% ABV.

The nose is spectacular in fruit and sugars. Pineapple, peaches, mango, banana, orange zest, lemon zest, vanilla pod, butterscotch, and toasted caramel are all present. On the palate the sugars hit immediately coating the roof of the mouth, the tongue, and teeth. Salivation is almost instantaneous, causing the want, no, the need for the next sip. A perfect offering for an after dinner drink to sip and reflect on the day's events. Should be 20 proof points higher and this would be on my all time favorites list. Love the nose, love the taste, but the finish is too fleeting. Nose: 4.75/5 Taste: 4.0/5 Finish: 3/5 Overall: 4.0/5 Repurchase: Yes Type: Friday Night Pour/Special Occasion

So apparently this legally is not “rum,” and-in fact-the label does not indicate as such (don’t let the “Bumbu Rum Co.” confuse you). By what little research i did, this is technically… something, just not rum. That aside, this goes great in certain cocktails. Really sugary, with hefty amounts of banana and molasses notes. Great with fig and lime. Super strong vanilla aroma, almost like a bake shop-turned-perfumery.

A rich, dark rum from Barbados based on the original recipe created by 17th century sailors & aged for up to 15 years in Kentucky Bourbon barrels. It has an aromatic birth with notes of caramel, Madagascar vanilla & a hint of oak; while a rich life adds notes of chocolate, banana, fire & cinnamon; that led to a long & sweet death with notes of roasted nuts, allspice & botanicals. Super sweet, real dessert esque style, very creamy. Light & tropical, may be a bit too sweet for some. Nose: lolly bananas, buttered pancakes with maple syrup, light cinamon. Taste: very sweet, initial and foremost vanilla & bananas, open up to caramel, with lighter notes of dried mango and apricots on the finish. Finish: medium, all the sweet continues, particularly banana and caramel

It is a deep amber with a strong aroma of vanilla and circus peanut candies. The flavor is heavy on circus peanut candy banana flavor and vanilla. There is also notes of caramel and pineapple. It is quite sweeter and better suited for mixed drinks. It offers a lot of complexity to a mixed drink over most spice rums.
