MASHBILL: 95% Rye; 5% Malted Barley (a Monongahela (aka “Pennsylvania”) type of Rye Whiskey) NOSE: grassy rye, laced with “fruity” notes (mint??) some hints of earth tones. PALATE: sweetness intertwined with baking spices, toasted marshmallows, and subtle hints of leather… FINISH: The sweetness fades somewhat in the accents of leather & rye grasses consumes my mouthful. The finish is nice but fades to some dryness in the echoes of its rye mash bill. Come hardening back to me. OVERALL: this is a very good rye whiskey and is very enjoyable to me. Some rye whiskeys can leave me dry and “wanting”; but this Buzzard’s Roost Toasted Rye it’s me back for another sip (or more!)
Buzzard's Roost Toasted Barrel Straight Rye
About this bottle
This rye whiskey from independent bottler & blender Buzzard's Roost is sourced from Indiana's MGP distillery. It's aged at least 3 years and is then finished in proprietary oak barrels which were toasted, but not charred which is a departure from most of the brand's offerings. It's bottled at 105 proof.

It's youth shows, but only a little. The cinnamon toast grain is heavy in the nose and soft on the pallete combined with rich vanilla and light oak. Turns to a light cinnamon red hot in the finish.
V v spicy and a but load of wood. Takes a bit of time to start opening up and peaking out marshmallow notes. Can be a good sipper. Definitely on those colder nights.
Sweet, marshmellow, toasty treat. Really enjoyed. A sweeter, tamer version of Michters Toasted Rye
