Light floral apple and a little ethanol on the nose. Lighter golden color and a medium body that feels more coating in the mouth than the glass shows. Poached pears and old apples in the mouth. Muted, lightly sweet with some vanilla. Baking spices and waxy (slightly citrus) apple peel on a long clean finish. Lighter and simpler in flavor than the Berneroy XO--less oak "umph" behind it. Easy to drink (or mix in cocktails) brandy, no harsh ethanol flavors.
About this bottle
Berneroy Calvados allows the freshly pressed apple juice to spontaneously ferment using only the ‘wild’ yeasts present on the apple skins. The cider is fermented over a period of about four weeks to complete dryness. The dry cider is distilled only once using an antique copper-column still. It is aged exclusively in older, ‘seasoned’ (aka used) barrels for a minimum of 4 years for the VSOP as required by law. The Berneroy Master Blender then combines the barrels of various ages and characteristics to create the house style.

My first calvados. Okay, technically, 2nd...but the first didn't count, since I bought a bottom shelf one to make a sauce. ( try it...pumpkin cheesecake, topped with calvados sauce...really good). This is fall packaged in a bottle. Smells like green apples and crisp cider. Sweet taste like honey dipped apple slices. Not sure I'd like to make this a regular item, but it's really good in the right context ( fall, chilly night, and a full stomach).
A rich Calvados from the heart of the Calvados region in France, Berneroy aged this VSOP in oak for around 8 years. It opens with notes of apple & wood; a palate with floral & vanilla notes that lead to a rich & balanced finish. November 2015 / August 2017 / February 2019
The second Calvados I've ever tasted after Pere Magloire VSOP. Less sweet, more earthiness and subtle baking spice flavors. Encourages more sipping to keep deciphering the complexity. A little too alcholohy tasting and bitter for me.
It is a deep golden with a strong aroma of green apple. The flavor is dominated by green apple and is incredibly smooth. There is some toasted marshmallow. It finishes fairly sweet.
Not too sweet. Good apple flavor with balanced amount of warm spices from the barrel. I prefer this to the XO.
