About this bottle

Captain Morgan rum is named after Sir Henry Morgan, who was a highly successful privateer (meaning a "legal pirate" who worked for the government to attack enemies who owed money and kept a portion of the loot as payment). Their white rum is molasses based, distilled 5 times and mixed with tropical spices. It's aged a year in oak and filtered for clarity.

Less rich and toffee flavored than a normal time. There is a fruity, floral elements to this that pervades the background lightly, replacing the smoke and sweet caramel. There is some alcohol flavor, but it's depressing with a nice fruity (blueberry?) characteristic. This is sweet still, but it can't quite get the quantity or quality of attention it needed regarding public equipment sets. The alcohol is quite present, but makes sense in a white rum. There is this bitter backing that is a bit much, but balances the fruit and sweetness nicely. The fruit tastes remarkably like apple and pear with a hint of orange. There's a little bit of nutmeg mulling the whole thing. Despite the alcohol and bitter flavors, the balance is quite good. The fruitiness is what really makes this successful. It isn't complex enough to drink a lot of straight, but it's a terrific mixer. The pear flavor is very appealing. Pretty smooth with a bit of spicy harshness.

Mild, bland, unattractive. Once you're teenager with taste for better alcohol and no sense of taste in rums, this is nice boozer. Once you get older, you'll change your mind. With few exceptions, Morgan stand three steps below basic Havana (and one below basic Bacardí), but pricing is one step, so I have no reason to go for it. Nice and not expensive for beginners, but if you'll miss the Morgan's basics, you won't regret.

Captain Morgan White Rum has a crystal clear appearance, with standard alcohol legs. The aroma is of pungent, white molasses, with some sweetness. The flavor is similar, with a touch of char and wood, possibly. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Captain Morgan White Rum finishes medium fast. RJT

Had in some mixed drinks, such as Mai Thais and Mango Tangos, remaking drinks we had in Mexico

A nice fruity flavor. Starting to like this more than the 100 proof
